1 Killed in Motorcycle/Minibike Collision in Deltona
One man was killed in a collision between a motorcycle and a minibike in Deltona on Sunday, the Volusia Sheriff's Office confirmed Monday. The 32-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 17-year-old minibiker was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred near the intersection of Utah Drive and Captain Drive at 6:45 pm on Sunday. Deputies responded and found the motorcyclist, a Deltona man, with fatal injuries. The teenage minibike rider was visiting from Massachusetts at the time of the accident. According to the VSO, the minibike was a Coleman CT200U. It was said to be going southbound on Utah Drive. The motorcycle was listed as a 2024 Suzuki. It was going westbound on Captain Drive. The VSO says that the minibiker did stop at the intersection, but then failed to yield to the motorcycle. After proceeding forward into the motorcycle's path, there was a t-bone collision. Both riders were thrown from their vehicles. Also clarified in the VSO's description of the incident: the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. The minibike was said to have been unregistered with no lights attached to it. It was not street legal, the VSO says, and the 17-year-old rider did not have a driver's license. Criminal charges against him may be assessed once the crash investigation is complete.
