One teenager was killed in Deltona on Thursday, the Volusia Sheriff's Office announced Friday morning. A 17-year-old is said to have died of gunshot wounds on Christmas evening. VSO deputies were called at around 8:49 pm, the Sheriff's Office said in their statement on the shooting. The incident occurred at the 2000 block of El Campo Avenue, a residential street that connects Sullivan Street to Applegate Terrace just west of Normandy Blvd. When they arrived on scene, deputies found 17-year-old Brenden Watkins having been shot multiple times. First responders attempted to administer life-saving measures on Watkins, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the VSO, detectives are actively pursuing leads and gathering information to shed more light on the Christmas Day shooting. More information will be posted in this and/or future reports as it's made available by law enforcement.
