26 Arrested in Volusia County Drug Sting
The Volusia Sheriff's Office has arrested 26 suspects in connection to a large-scale drug investigation, the agency announced on Wednesday. Deemed 'Operation Holy Rollers', the investigation centered around narcotics activity on the eastern side of the county. Several different types of narcotics were seized throughout the operation, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA, and others. The VSO also took in firearms, drug manufacturing equipment, and cash. Four locations were investigated as part of Operation Holy Rollers. Law enforcement visited the Greater Harvest Ministries church in Holly Hill, the 500 East Apartments in Daytona Beach, the Lotus Boutique Inn and Suites in Ormond Beach, and two residences in Daytona Beach. According to the VSO, the arrests "dismantled several narcotics distribution points, removed trafficking level quantities of dangerous drugs from the community, and resulted in multiple felony arrests linked to fentanyl manufacturing, armed drug trafficking, and organized distribution networks". Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood says that ten search warrants were obtained in total, leading to over 50 arrest warrants. Many of these warrants were for members of a group that Chitwood referred to as the Cutthroat Killers. "They are responsible for about three overdose deaths, ranging from Oak Hill and New Smyrna, and one overdose where a person survived in Edgewater," Chitwood said. "They're responsible for a couple shootings in Daytona. They're about guns and dope and some really significant criminal histories here." Chitwood said the Cutthroat Killers use Greater Harvest Ministries as a headquarters for widespread drug operations. Two arrests were made at the church: 47-year-old Ermando Lewis and a 17-year-old Logic Lewis. The VSO SWAT team seized fentanyl, cocaine, oxycodone, MDMA, and morphine.
