3 Siblings Donate Year's Savings to Volusia County Animal Shelter

Three young siblings used a year's worth of savings to pool together a pet food donation to the Volusia County Animal Shelter. The Volusia County government crafted an announcement of the kids' kind act on Thursday. The names of the children were not provided, nor was the amount of food they came up with. But neither detail was as important as the heart of their action: working together selflessly to help animals in need. Over the course of a year, all three kids collected loose change they found in order to purchase pet food. On Wednesday they brought their yield to the Volusia County Animal Shelter, the county's stray animal intake and care provider. As part of their act of philanthropy, the kids enjoyed a personal encounter with one of the shelter animals. Vitorio, a dog under shelter care, spent time with the kids on Wednesday in the exercise yard. They spent time together in the exercise yard and working with agility equipment. Gestures like those compiled by these kids are key to keeping the county's stray animals fed and nourished, the county says. "Donations of pet food and other supplies help support the shelter's daily operations and the dogs and cats that receive care while waiting for permanent homes," the announcement said. "Community support through donations and volunteerism plays an important role in helping Animal Services provide for animals in its care."
