DeBary Man Drowns in Boating Accident
A 75-year-old man from DeBary tragically drowned in an accident while boating, the Volusia Sheriff's Office confirmed on Monday. The victim was identified as Jerry Capo, a DeBary resident. According to a summary of the incident from the VSO, Capo and his son were planning on going boating Saturday morning. They were set to launch from Sher Lane in DeBary onto the St. Johns River. The Volusia Sheriff's Office was called at around 10:27 a.m. on Saturday after someone reportedly found Capo's body in the water. He was in between two boats at the dock when he was found. In their description of the incident, the VSO says that Capo's leg was wrapped around a rope that was used to tie the boat to the dock. An investigation was conducted, and the VSO determined that Capo's tragic passing was accidental. No foul play is suspected. Capo's son arrived on scene after the emergency call was placed. He filled the VSO in on the details of he and his father's plans for the day. The VSO says that Capo got caught on the rope and fell into the water while he was preparing for the day's boating trip.
