Flagler Fire Captain Graduates State Leadership Institute
Flagler County Fire Rescue Captain Tony Guerin has graduated from the Emergency Services Leadership Institute (ESLI), the FCFR announced on Monday. Guerin successfully underwent two years of training and education specifically tailored for those in fire response agencies. "I had a fantastic experience learning from experts in this targeted program," Guerin said of his experience in a statement on Monday. "It has equipped me with new skills that I'm excited to bring to the table." Seven topics are offered in the ESLI. Participants are required to complete at least six of them. These include: Human Resources and Labor Relations Personal Qualities, Leadership, and the Organization Government Relations and Public Policy Marketing Fire and Emergency Medical Services Finance and Budgeting Emergency Management Community Risk Reduction Those who successfully complete the ESLI often find themselves in a better position for future promotions. They're also equipped to achieve their certifications as Fire Officer 3 and Fire Officer 4 through the State Fire Marshal's Bureau of Fire Standards and Training. "The commitment of Captain Guerin to professional growth and servant leadership strengthens our organization and the service we provide our community," said Flagler County Fire Rescue Chief Michael Tucker. "His ESLI achievement reflects the high standards we set for our leadership team and the investment we make in developing our team." Tony Guerin joined Flagler County Fire Rescue in 2000. In his quarter-century with the agency, he's risen through the ranks to his current position of captain. In September 2024, then-Lieutenant Guerin was dispatched to Dixie County, Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. He went alongside Flagler Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord, Engagement Manager Karen Callahan, Emergency Management Specialist Lovie Haley, and FCFR Paramedic Savannah Loertscher
