Former Volusia Private School Teacher Sentenced for Child Porn Charges
A former private school teacher in Volusia County was sentenced to 135 years in prison for a series of disturbing criminal sexual offenses. 47-year-old David Robert McKeown was convicted of possession of child pornography and sexual contact with an animal. McKeown was arrested on June 20th on 25 total criminal charges, records with the Volusia County Branch Jail show. The investigation into his offenses began when the Holly Hill Police Department received a tip from Discord, an online social chatting application. According to prosecutors, McKeown used the school WiFi at UBIC Academy to both send and receive materials containing the sexual abuse of children. He also was said to have made videos of him abusing a family pet. McKeown was charged with 18 counts of possession of child pornography, six counts of sexual contact with an animal, and one count of aggravated possession of child pornography. He was denied bond upon being booked into jail, and has remained in custody since his June arrest. In addition to his 135-year prison sentence, Circuit Judge A. Christian Miller ensures McKeown would be designated as a sexual offender if he’s ever released from prison. He’d also be barred from ever owning another animal. “The abuse and trauma this predator inflicted is sick, and he deserves every moment of this sentence,” said Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. “We will always seek the longest sentence possible for anyone who harms innocent children or defenseless animals. Thanks to Senior Assistant Statewide Prosecutor Emily Frazier and the Holly Hill Police Department, this criminal has been brought to justice and will not be allowed to harm another child or animal again.”
