Gas Prices On The Rise Again in Florida
The cost of gas in Florida is back on the rise. This time, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is 31 cents more expensive than it was one week ago according to data from AAA. As of Wednesday, an average gallon of gas in Florida costs $4.46. That's up from $4.31 just one day ago, $4.15 a week ago, and $3.05 a year ago. Higher still are the average prices in Flagler County ($4.54) and Volusia County ($4.50). The generally accepted reason for this trend according to experts is the ongoing U.S.-Iranian war. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global energy commerce channel, is triggering uncertainty around fuel supply which has a very noticeable effect on prices. "Big gains in oil and gasoline futures contributed to the jump at the pump last week," said AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins. "The ongoing Iranian conflict and uncertainty tied to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is keeping upward pressure on fuel prices with no clear indication of letting up." A Wednesday report from The Associated Press provides a glimmer of hope that tensions will soon ease. The United States and Iran are working toward an agreement that would end the war, the report says, though President Donald Trump is threatening a renewed bombing campaign if Iran doesn't agree to the deal. In the meantime, motorists across the United States are feeling the real-time consequences of the ongoing conflict. The prices of crude oil increased 13% according to a AAA report released on Monday. As of that report, gas prices in Florida were at their highest level since July 2022.
