Seabreeze High School Paraprofessional Arrested for Alleged Assault of Student
A paraprofessional at Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach was arrested on Thursday after allegedly assaulting a 17-year-old student. Dontel Wright, 50, is still in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail as of Friday morning. According to a statement from the Daytona Beach Police Department, Wright was said to have kicked a student who was in a 'behavioral incident'. After this the student is said to have tried to run away from Wright, who allegedly followed him behind a set of bleachers. Once Wright reached the student, the DBPD says, he pulled him back out by force. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by the student in the incident. Their parents are planning to press charges against Wright, police say. A school resource officer was notified of the incident after it was brought to the attention of a Seabreeze High School assistant principal. A criminal investigation was then opened into Wright's actions. He was arrested that day for child abuse, and is being held in jail without bond. Wright has no prior arrest records in Volusia County before this week's incident.
