The Volusia County government has announced a series of closures and schedule changes set to go into effect for the holidays. Several of the county's offices and facilities will have adjusted hours to account for Christmas and New Year's Day. Administrative Offices The Volusia County government is closing all of its administrative offices on Thursday, December 25th and Friday, December 26th. The offices will again close on Thursday, January 1st and Friday, January 2nd. Public Libraries Each of the branches of the Volusia County Public Library will be closing early on Wednesday, December 24th. They will stay closed all day on Thursday, December 25th in observance of Christmas Day, as well as Friday, December 26th. Libraries will reopen on Saturday, December 27th. The libraries will again close early on Wednesday, December 31st for New Year's Eve. They'll remain close on Thursday, January 1st and Friday, January 2nd before reopening for normal hours on Saturday, January 3rd. Trash Collection - Unincorporated Volusia County There will be no trash collection for residents of unincorporated Volusia County on Christmas day. All scheduled collections that would've happened on Thursday will happen Friday, with Friday's collections being bumped back to Saturday. The same pattern will apply to New Year's Eve the following Thursday and New Year's Day the following Friday. "These one-day delays for the two holiday weeks only apply to routes normally collected on Thursdays and Fridays," the county said in a release on Thursday. "Items should be placed curbside by 6 a.m. on the make-up collection day. Collection services will operate on a normal schedule on all other days. Residents who live within city limits should check with their municipal waste provider for any holiday schedule changes." There will be closures at the West Volusia Transfer Station and the Tomoka Farms Road Landfill on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Public Transit VoTran buses will be on a limited schedule for Christmas Day. Only six routes will be running: 1, 3, 4, 10, 15, and 17. They'll be operating according to a Sunday schedule, despite Christmas falling on a Thursday. A week later on New Year's Day the entire public transit system will be shutting down. This applies to VoTran, VoAccess, New Smyrna Beach Flex, and VoRide. Other Facilities The Lyonia Environmental Center and DeBary Hall will both be closing all day on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, plus the day after each holiday. The Marine Science Center, meanwhile, will be closed only on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
