Boil Water Notice Issued for Lake Marie Estates

A precautionary boil water notice was issued for Lake Marie Estates in DeBary on Thursday, the Volusia County government announced. Residents of this neighborhood who are customers of Volusia County Water Resources & Utilities are affected. Those affected are advised to boil any water they plan on using to drink, cook, make ice, brush their teeth, or wash dishes. The county's advisory states that a one-minute rolling boil is enough to render the water safe to use. Bottled water is a safe alternative for these purposes. It's also advised that those affected discard ice made by automatic ice makers. The notice is a result of a water main break caused by a private contractor, the county government says. While working in the area, the contractor was said to have 'struck and damaged' one of the water mains which serves the Lake Marie Estates Community. The contractor who reportedly caused the break is not affiliated with either the Volusia County government or the DeBary city government, the county says. Crews from the county have responded and are in the process of repairing the break as of Thursday. The advisory will be lifted as county staff perform bacteriological testing to confirm the water is safe for consumption. Updates can be found at Volusia County's website on the water alert page.
