Daytona Beach Shores Tollbooth Crash Suspect Denied Bond

The Ormond Beach resident accused of killing a toll booth worker in Daytona Beach Shores with her truck has been denied bond. 36-year-old Deanna Harrell has been charged with vehicular homicide and DUI causing death. On Monday, Harrell was said to have blown through an intersection in her Ford F-150 pickup truck, plowing through a toll booth in Daytona Beach Shores at Dunlawton Avenue. Inside was 62-year-old Tammie Jo Baker, who was declared dead at the scene. After hitting the booth, Harrell is said to have continued driving into the shallows of the ocean, before turning south until her truck stopped working. Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said he believed he smelled alcohol from Harrell's truck. Lifeguards on duty attempted life-saving measures for Baker, but the Volusia Sheriff's Office has said she was likely beyond saving. Baker worked for many years as a toll booth employee, and had just recently switched from county employment to a private company after toll booth operations changed hands. Harrell was pulled from her truck at the scene and initially placed into the custody of Florida's Baker Act. On Wednesday she was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on her two felony criminal charges. Prior to this incident, Harrell has no other bookings on record in Volusia County.
