DeLand Police Serve Search Warrant In Double-Murder Investigation

The DeLand Police Department has served a search warrant in connection to an ongoing double-murder investigation, the agency recently confirmed. The victims were found deceased on Wednesday, and the warrant was served on Saturday. The search warrant was served at a residence on Loughton Street at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. Loughton Street is located north of the downtown area of DeLand, just west of where International Speedway Blvd terminates. Assisting the DPD in the execution of the search warrant was the Volusia Sheriff's Office SWAT team, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)'s Safe Streets Task Force. The victims were found deceased near Athens Theatre in DeLand late Wednesday evening. They were later identified as 19-year-old Dustin Rose and 18-year-old Samson Campbell. The pair have been described as childhood friends. "Our police department is working hard to determine what happened, and to identify the person or persons who are responsible for the deaths of these young men," said DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger. Police have confirmed the two men were shot to death. Rose is said to be a resident of DeLeon Springs who was visiting from his new residence in South Carolina. There he was a student at The Citadel, and a member of the South Carolina Army National Guard. Campbell, meanwhile, is from DeLand originally but recently relocated to Chicago.
