Florida Gas Prices Spike to Nearly Four Dollars

Gas prices in Florida jumped significantly within the past two weeks, peaking at $3.94 per gallon on average as of Sunday. That figure eased slightly to $3.90 by Wednesday. The jump in gas prices for Florida applied increased pressure at the pump compared to costs not long ago. The peak cost of $3.94 was a 12-cent increase from one week prior, 26 cents up from a month beforehand, and 84 cents higher than one year back. The cause for this sudden price spike appears to be a combination of factors according to an analysis by AAA. For one, global tension appears to be contributing to market uncertainty. High demand with summer travel isn't helping ease prices either. "Geopolitical tensions can create volatility in energy markets, and that's exactly what drivers saw last week," said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins. "While prices eased slightly by the weekend, motorists are still paying significantly more than they were just a month ago. Drivers should expect prices to remain sensitive to developments overseas and fluctuations in the oil market. Locally, both Flagler and Volusia counties are running slightly higher than the state average gas prices as of Wednesday. With the statewide figure sitting at $3.90, Flagler County is listed at $3.96 on average with Volusia County at $3.91. The nationwide average gas price is $4.06.
